Fasting and Prayer
Fasting is one of the most powerful spiritual Christian disciplines. God’s tremendous power can be released through you as you fast, denying your physical body of food and other pleasures and replacing them with activities that strengthen and exercise your spirit man by spending more time in prayer and regularly dining on God’s Word day and night.
Our theme for 2026 21 days of fasting and prayer is Mature Me, we are pursuing a maturer version of ourselves in Christ that will allow us to stand firm in our faith throughout 2026 and beyond!
In the Bible, fasting is synonymous with abstinence from food for an extended period. Therefore, Alive City Church is fasting from food by doing a water-only fast between the hours of 6am and 6pm for 21 days

Fasting is a spiritual discipline in both the Old and New Testament. For example, Moses fasted at least two recorded 40-day periods. Jesus fasted 40 days and reminded His followers to fast, “when you fast,” not if you fast. Here are 4 points for why you should join us on 21 days of fasting:
1
Fasting and prayer helps us get closer to God and results in a more intimate relationship with Christ. Fasting can result in a dynamic personal revival – and make you a channel of revival to others
2
Fasting is a biblical way to truly humble yourself in the sight of God (Psalm 35:13; Ezra 8:21). King David said, “I humble myself through fasting.”
3
Fasting is a tool in spiritual warfare, as Jesus said that some things don’t come out except by prayer and fasting (Mark 9:29; Matthew 17:21). In Isaiah 58:6, the Bible also says that fasting, loosens the chains of injustice, unties the cords of yokes and set the oppressed free
4
Fasting is an excellent way of developing spiritual discipline. The Bible tells us that the ‘flesh wars against the spirit’. Denying your flesh and feeding your spirit man enables your spirit to win that war (Galatians 5:17)!
